Every Good Thing

"I...tend to be...busier than I should be
I...tend to think...that time is going to wait for me
Sometimes I forget...and take for granted
That it's a beautiful life we live
I don't want to miss...the moments like this
This is a beautiful life You give"

On the Importance of Increments of Five

Today was quite a bit unique. I had the opportunity to revisit my bike throughout the day...and I did.

I didn't get started as soon as I thought I might, but I went to sleep last night very tired and with the weather as it is (and that it would effect my quality of sleep a bit), I wanted to be sure I had sufficient REM.

I have an MP3 player, but it's not up-to-date right now with my latest songs of interest, so I stuck with using the TV for biking entertainment. Leaving an hour and a half in between each 5K, I hopped on at 7 a.m., 9 a.m., 11 a.m. ...

Yes, and then I meant to use some part of the noon to 2:30 time period to spend an hour with the two half hour Biggest Loser DVDs... I got them both out of the nearby drawer... I also vacuumed the rug where I'd be standing/moving the most... The DVDs never made it into the player. At least not today. Again, I'm partially blaming the weather. Part of the reason I never got around to starting is because I realized that I could take the 5 p.m. hour (or maybe sometime around 7:30/8 p.m.) to take on the DVDs, sometime once it got a bit cooler.

Well, I got sidetracked and it never happened. And, I don't think it got much cooler either. However, I did get back on the bike at 3 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m. Each time because there was enough time in between the 5Ks, and because there was something worth watching on TV... I should mention that we don't have cable.

So, if you're wondering about why this particular number of 5Ks, well, I like to do things in  increments of five. I think that might have a lot to do with why I began biking five Ks from the beginning of my bike ownership (many years ago). Even when I realized I could have added another 5K (or so), I didn't bother since I had accomplished five 5Ks for today. And because as much as I highly enjoy doing things in increments of five, I also highly dislike doing or having six of anything. This is why if I wasn't certain I'd want to take that leap to seven 5Ks; that "one more" could be a not-so-good-thing. Many "sixes" have crept into my life (in non-5K related ways), much to my chagrin.

So there you have it! I accomplished not what I set out to do, but definitely something, and that something was definitely good!

May 31 accountability: Biked 5K at 7 a.m., 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 3 p.m., and 7:30 p.m.
